Out here in the foothills of Alberta, we believe furniture should tell a story and be built to last. At Blue Dog Fabrics, we breathe new life into timeworn pieces and handcraft fresh ones from the ground up. Whether it’s a rescued armchair with deep roots or a brand-new footstool made to fit your space just right, it’s all done with heart, heritage, and hands that know the work.

We scout barns, auctions, family homes, and back-road swaps for solid, well-built furniture. The kind you just don’t find anymore. Each piece is carefully restored, reimagined, and reupholstered to bring it back to life with character and comfort to spare.

Not everything we make had a life before, some things start fresh. Our custom-built ottomans, pillows, and stools are sewn from scratch with the same sturdy craftsmanship and eye for detail. Built right here, they’re made to fit your home, your boots-up comfort, and your prairie pace.

Built strong, stitched slow, and made to last a lifetime.

Let’s talk. Whether you’ve got a worn-down chair with good bones or a bare nook needing a custom footstool, I’d love to help bring your vision to life.

FAQ

Why should I re-upholster, if it’s cheaper to buy something new?

Like fast fashion, fast furniture is a growing problem that not only affects quality but affects our environment. 80% of furniture manufactured commercially ends up in landfills. The current life span of most retail furniture only averages about 5 years. Upholstery can offer your furniture a life span of anywhere between 10 to 20 years and a unique piece made specifically to your personal styles and tastes!

What fabrics are kid and pet-friendly?

Most of our vendors provide durable, water repellent, and washable fabric. Ultimately it will be our goal to provide the best fabric to suit your needs as well as your overall design and aesthetic.

How long does upholstery generally take?

From the initial quote to your finished product we generally estimate about 8 to 12 weeks. However, most of our estimates are on a custom basis and can vary. Please allow for this time but never hesitate to ask us for a more specific time frame for your piece or in special instances for rushed service.

How can I make my upholstery last?

We always ensure that with every piece that we upholster, we take the time to thoroughly inspect the quality and durability of your piece. In doing this inspection of your piece, it allows us to really assess the longevity and quality of your piece. We always recommend the best for our clients and try to assist them in making educated decisions.

Do you upholster outdoor furniture?

Yes!

Can you change the overall style of a piece?

In some cases yes, but we would really need to inspect and ensure that your money was being spent properly when changing the style of a piece. If you have any further questions please feel free to request a quote so we can evaluate your project.

Do you do auto or boat upholstery?

We do not offer auto or boat upholstery, however, we have excellent recommendations that we can offer you.

Can you match my existing fabric?

In some cases we can, please feel free to make an appointment with us in order to give you a quote for your piece. If fabric cannot be matched we can often find a suitable complementary fabric.

Can you store my pieces?

Due to my small workshop I am unable to store any furniture. When starting a project please ensure you are available for pickup upon project completion.

Is my furniture worth reupholstering?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We are here to help guide you, and sometimes that means telling you it isn't worth it. Honesty matters, and generally reupholstering is a wise decision if:

Good Frame and Construction: If the item has a solid frame and well-constructed structure, reupholstering can extend its life and functionality.

Durability: When the item has proven to be durable, lasting for many years, reupholstering can give it a new lease on life and further value.

Comfort: If the item is comfortable to use or sit on and you want to retain that comfort, reupholstering can help maintain its usability.

Sentimental Value: If the item holds sentimental value, such as being an heirloom or having special memories attached to it, reupholstering can preserve its emotional significance.

Quality and Craftsmanship: High-quality or unique items that are difficult to replace with something similar may be worth reupholstering to maintain their craftsmanship and originality.
